Pastor Craig - September 2019
“Football Realities?”
Every time I went, they asked me for money. The people with who I had to sit didn’t seem very friendly. The seats were too hard and not comfortable. The coach never came to call on me. The referee made a decision with which I could not agree. I was sitting with some hypocrites—they came only to see what others were wearing.
Some games went into overtime, and I was late getting home. The band played some numbers that I had never heard before. The games are scheduled when I want to do other things. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up. Since I read a book on sports, I feel that I know more than the coaches anyhow. I don’t want to take my children, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best. “With apologies to those who use the same excuses for not coming to church.”
(I found this comparison and I didn’t want to lose it so I created this file several months ago. Imagine my surprise when I tried to save my new article and it wouldn’t let because I had already started it.)
When something is worthwhile we strive to make it happen. I know that when the Vikings schedule comes out I take a look at the dates and times when it could be possible for me to actually see a game. Some of you might be in that same position. Living away from our “home” teams we know that we look to see if they are playing on Sunday night, or Monday night or Thursday night or just by chance they are playing that team from Glendale.
September for me has always been the start of the new church year. Sunday School, confirmation, Bible Studies, choir practice, community meal and all the rest of the activities of the church start to appear on the calendar. We start looking at things we want to do and figure out times that are open to do it. What I have come to know is that there needs to be many opportunities to come together as God’s people. Pastor Dan and I understand that together we are able to do amazing and wonderful things in the name of God. But it does take you. Seeing and believing and caring for one another. Worshipping, praising and praying to a God who empowers us all.
As you read this, take a moment, and pray a quick prayer giving thanks for God’s amazing presence in your life.
In Christ,
Pastor Craig
